Meet a Happy Space client, Rachelle Cheng
Every month, we feature one of our amazing clients. Meeting and working with ambitious, creative women doing interesting work in Hong Kong is one of my favorite parts of being a professional organizer.
Everyone has their own reason for getting our help. Hear in their own words about their experience getting organized with us.
Meet Rachelle
Rachelle reached out to us feeling overwhelmed by the growing chaos at home. With two young kids and navigating around other children's allergies, she knew that organization wasn’t just a luxury, it was a necessity. She wanted a space that felt calm, functional, and manageable for her busy family life. With our team’s support, she was able to declutter, simplify, and create a home that finally feels peaceful and under control.
Give us a quick introduction
Hello! I'm Rachelle, a part time ophthalmologist and a full time mum. I am a mother to two wonderful kids who are now 7 and almost 4.
Why did you decide to hire us?
My youngest was around 6 months old when I decided to hire Nassim. My kids have pretty bad allergies and I was looking to get rid of a bunch of furniture that caused them to have allergic reactions. We also had way too many toys just stuffed in Kallax cubes that my kids couldn’t actually access. I needed an outsider to help me look at the space and think of a novel way to organize everything as I was mentally stuck. I also realized having two kids meant I needed more brain power for them, instead of organising all the time. I didn’t have a system, so I couldn’t really teach the helpers how to organize everything either. I was just spending so much time putting everything in the right spot (which only I knew in my mind) every few days that I decided I really needed a systematic way of doing this.
What was the most surprising part of the process?
Nassim doesn’t make you get rid of stuff!! She can work with a maximalist approach and allow you to keep all your things. My kids and I have sentimental attachments to many things so we were relieved. We did still end up donating a lot of stuff though! The whole process made us really question what’s important and what’s not. I’m glad that Nassim also put us in touch with the Refugee Union, which meant that a lot of our things that are still in good condition could benefit others.
How has the organization benefited you in your daily life?
I have so much more time! I don’t waste time thinking of where to put things away anymore as everything has a place. Similarly, it takes less time to find things as I know exactly where they are.
Did you have any hesitations about the service?
I have to admit the price was intimidating at first! Seeing how Nassim has LITERALLY changed our life though, it’s totally worth it.
What is your favorite system that we implement and how has it helped the flow in your home?
My favourite part is the kids wardrobe! The kids clothes are separated by category and child, there is a space for clothing that don’t fit the kids yet, and also a bin for clothes to be Retykled. The kids know where everything is and it’s easy for them to pick clothes to get dressed themselves. My daughter is super picky about what she wants to wear, so Nassim also helped me set up a low drawer with all her outfits.
I love the Retykle bin - it gets sent off to their warehouse once it’s full! The “grow into” section also lets me see at a glance what clothes my younger one has to wear later down the line and avoids too many purchases.
How easy has it been to maintain the organization?
This is the best part of Nassim’s approach. Everything is really easy to maintain, and even expand on. It’s been more than 3 years since Nassim has first helped us, and most of her systems are still in place! The rest have been easy to modify as my kids interests and needs changed as they grew up.
How have your helpers been positively impacted by the organization? How about your kids?
Nassim does a great job teaching the helpers how to categorise everything from the wardrobes to the kitchen. It’s easier for them to help tidy up when everything is labeled - also easier for them to find things ! I can just let them know which labeled drawer I need something from . It saves a lot of frustration. They’ve also taken the initiative to label things in the kitchen.
My son loves organising, like me, so he is super satisfied when Nassim does her stuff. He even tells her exactly what he wants. My daughter has grown up with having a “right place” for everything, so she’s really organised as well
